Annoying deals popping up on your browser?

While many small business owners are managing their businesses online with SaaS applications, advertisers are a step ahead in enticing these users to inadvertently download add-on software or even spyware.  Some QuickBooks Online users have been victim to this and see annoying pop up messages that provide discounts on Intuit products as shown in the images below. The first reaction is “Why is Intuit advertising these deals to a paying customer?”

These popups are not created or endorsed by Intuit. Third party companies such as dropdowndeals.com and dropinsavings.com prompt users to download these add-on tools.

In the offline world, this experience is analogous to local grocery stores stuffing your mail boxes with coupons. Fortunately in the online world, you have the ability to prevent these downloads with a little bit of precaution. You can follow the tips provided by Intuit security at http://security.intuit.com/protect-your-computer.html to be safe while browsing the Internet and prevent spyware downloads.

If you have dropinsavings or dropdowndeals on your computer now, you can follow these steps below to uninstall them.

    Dear Intuit,
How ’bout removing that annoying ad for ProOnGo expense app from my task list?

    • Trent Says:

How about removing all ads from the task list. They are all very annoying.

      • qboarti Says:

        Trent / VA Wright,

The product team hears your feedback and will pass this information to the appropriate Product managers who are testing this feature. Would you be willing to talk to them if they are interested in getting more details?

        Thank you
        Aarthi

        • Chad H Says:

I can’t speak for Trent or VA, but I would be willing to speak with the product managers. I find the ads annoying and have moved the task list to the bottom of my homepage to avoid seeing them. I might miss some tasks I need to see but I also don’t fell like Intuit is captive targeting to me every day.

          • qboarti Says:

            Chad,

That is great. I will email the product manager who is managing this test with your contact information so he can reach out to you.
We love to hear from you as always.

            Regards
            Aarthi

          • Trent Says:

Same here – now the task list has become worthless. I would also talk to the managers if desired.

            Thanks,
            Trent

        • VA Wright Says:

Is there a plan to fix this? I don’t understand the request to “talk to the product managers.” I think the customer expectation is that we should be able to delete that task, which should be straightforward. I assume it’s simply a bug, that the delete button for that task isn’t working.

          • qboarti Says:

            Wright,

I am trying to work on a solution for this and will get back to you once I have more information.

            Thank you for your patience.

            Regards
            Aarthi

          • abe Says:

Hi VA Wright, this doesn’t sound right. All of those tasks should be removable. I’ll work with you on this. I’ll contact you shortly – Abe.

  3. Kenny Says:

Hey, how about not having that stupid, super annoying required popup in your QBO interface?? It’s 100% unnecessary and is the reason WHY we have to keep our popup filters off. If you simply had someone with an IQ over 70 designing your webapps, these above issues WOULDN’T EVEN EXIST!!!

  4. Bill Says:

How about making a version that works on the iPad!!

  5. Unix128 Says:

If Kenny had an IQ over 70, he’d offer a suggestion or write his own accounting system, instead of signing up for someone else’s. He also would know that the junkware mentioned above has no relation to the popup requirement.

With that said, I do agree that popups can be annoying on first sign-in to QBOE. To intuit, I would recommend using something like shadowbox (essentially an iframe within a lightbox) in place of the pop ups.
